Pastor Eric Wann’s message in the Busy series, “The Clock or the Compass,” really hit home. I found myself saying “Ouch!” throughout the whole service as he described my life. Working three jobs and still finding time to waste on TV and Candy Crush, I’m a prime example of someone who needs to shift my focus from spending time to investing time. I knew that to change from living in the box of Unimportant and Not Urgent would take some obedience on my part. I just didn’t know I’d learn that lesson so quickly. God had good things in store for me today.

Earlier in the service when it was time to give to the Imagine Life campaign, I was feeling down. Money has been very tight this month and I knew I couldn’t give like I wanted to. I still felt God telling me to give what I could so I gave $100 hoping to be able to give more later.

Once I got home I started on Pastor Wann’s #1 practical tip: De-clutter. I posted several items for sale on Craigslist and boxed up things to donate to a local charity and began to really de-clutter our living room. While working on a pile of paperwork that I thought was trash, I found a check we had not cashed worth $600! That’s 6 times what I gave today. What a great return on investment! I know that God was using this small example to show me that He cares about me, He will provide for me and that He’s got me in the palm of His hand.

Now I’m really looking forward to working through Pastor Wann’s other practical tips to see what God has in store for me. Be encouraged that through obedience, God will match your efforts and bless you beyond what you can imagine!
