Financial Peace & A Debt Free Car

I recently experienced a “God story” in my life through a new set of wheels.

My 2005 Camry might not look that new to some, but for me it’s a huge step up from our old 1997 Corolla and it’s not just a new car but a trophy of God’s promise to provide for us. The best part is that my husband and I were able to purchase this car; paid in full with no debt! Some might think that’s just crazy, unattainable, or just not the “American way.” We’re always going to have a car payment, right? I know we have been blessed by God and attribute much of this to the teachings of Dave Ramsey.

I began Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University through a CL Life Group where I learned how to “live like no one else so that later you can live (and give!) like no one else.” Through FPU, reading the Total Money Makeover, listening to Podcasts and lots of prayer and discipline, we have been able to pay off over $20,000 in debt and purchase a reliable used car in cash. That’s winning! And that’s God!

Jeremiah 29:11 states, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” It’s this hope and future that kept us charging along, canceling cable TV, saying no to trips to Target and adding a second job. These little steps of faith have led to our being able to knock out debt and no longer be a slave to the lender. I learned that obeying God with my finances, even in the little things, is an important part of my walk with Him. My real hope is to become completely debt free. We are almost there! I will really be free to give back to others. I encourage and challenge each of you to do the same. How cool would it be to have a debt-free church? What a difference we could make! I pray for you all to prosper and have hope in your future with God.
