Submission is a word that when most people hear it, they define it as “walked on, degraded, defeated, etc” Often the mental picture of a caveman pulling his wife along by her hair comes to mind. To “spiritually” elaborate within that metaphor, God would be the caveman and we would be the woman. As if there is no choice on our part whether to serve and obey Him. Basically a “forced” slave told to do everything and punished if we don’t. This is NOT a picture of submission. I can’t imagine any of us wanting to be Christians if that were the case.
I recently read through the book of Job. With so many of us struggling in this most recent crisis, of both economic and spiritual origins, I thought it wise to see how God interatcted with a guy who had it all, lost it all and regained it all and more. I came away with two strong messages from this particular reading of the book, so here goes with revelation number one.

If your kids were asked to describe how you are at home, in the car, at the store…what would they say? It’s a sobering question that many of us would be embarrassed to answer, at least sometimes. In fact, some of you probably just skipped a heartbeat or two thinking about things that have slipped out of your mouth!
